Getting started
Products, units, and opening stock
Set up product identities, purchase costs, pack sizes, and location balances.
On this page
Give each stocked item an identity
In Products, choose Add product; the sidebar calls the same action New product. Record its name, SKU, optional barcode, category, and notes. Use one SKU consistently for the same item: CSV imports use SKU matches to recognize existing products, and no two products may hold the same SKU.
Purchase cost is what one stock unit costs you; selling price is what you normally charge for it. The product page brings these fields together with stock by location, incoming orders, movement, and recent history.
Distinguish a unit from a pack
Counted products use whole quantities. Measured goods such as kg, L, or m can use decimals. Choose the stock unit first, then set a pack size when you buy in cases or bundles.
For example, keep cans in units and set a case size of 24. Receiving two cases adds 48 units. The product’s own purchase cost is per stock unit; when you switch the receive dialog to packs, it asks for the cost of a whole pack and converts that to a unit cost for you. Supplier sources can have their own pack sizes.
Check balances and retire products deliberately
The product page shows stock at each location; its edit sheet is where you assign a shelf code and a minimum for each place. Use Receive, Remove, Recount, or Move for subsequent stock changes so the activity log explains what happened.
Archive a product when you want to retire it while keeping its details, threshold, SKU, and history. Keep a backup before bulk cleanup; archiving is useful when you may need a product again.
