Reading a product page

Every product has its own address

Each product has a page of its own at an address ending in #/product/ and its id. Rows in the product list, cards on a phone, alert rows, report tables, and reorder lines all link to it, and you can bookmark it or share it with someone signed in to the same account.

The page states rather than asks: it is not the edit form. Editing opens on top of it, so a drill-down never lands you in a screenful of inputs you did not come to change. A link to a product that has since been deleted shows a plain “Product not found” page rather than an empty one.

The four tiles at the top

An ordinary product shows On hand (with anything still due on an open order), Stock value at its average purchase cost, Margin against its selling price, and Cover, the days of stock left at the rate it has been leaving recently.

Cover shows a dash when the activity log cannot say: either nothing has sold recently, or the log does not yet reach back far enough. That is an honest unknown, not a promise that stock will last.

A product sold as a kit holds no stock of its own, so its first tile reads Can sell, worked out from its components, and the second counts those components instead.

The cards below

Stock by location lists every place holding stock, plus any place that should hold some and does not, with its shelf code, its minimum, how far short it is, and receive, remove, and move buttons for that place alone. Expiry lists dated lots in earliest-first order when the product tracks dates.

Bought from lists every supplier source with its own code, price, lead time, and pack size, marking the cheapest without ever choosing it. On order appears when a placed order still owes you units. Movement charts units out per day over the last 30 days, and Recent activity shows the last few log entries.

A variant also shows its family and its siblings; a kit shows its recipe, how many it can make, and which component runs out first. A component shows the kits it is part of, which explains stock leaving without anyone touching it directly.

Actions that belong to the product

Adjust stock opens the receive, remove, recount, and move dialog. Build appears on kits assembled ahead of time. Edit opens the full sheet. Label prints a barcode label for this one product.

Duplicate opens a new product form pre-filled from this one, with the name marked as a copy and the SKU, barcode, and quantity cleared, because those identify one product each. Archive retires it without losing anything; on an archived product the same button restores it.
