Set a starting threshold
Set a product’s low-stock threshold, or use the store-wide default. Stock at or below the threshold is low; zero stock is out of stock. Thresholds are quantities, so choose them in the product’s stock unit. A threshold of zero switches the low warning off for that product, leaving only out of stock.
A local minimum answers how much should sit at one location. The low-stock threshold answers when the product’s overall balance needs attention.
Read the recent demand rate
Inventory measures demand over up to 30 days of available activity. It needs at least seven days of log reach before showing a rate. It uses the span actually available, rather than dividing a short history by a full month.
Days of cover is stock on hand divided by the recent daily demand rate. A missing rate is unknown demand, not a promise that stock will last indefinitely. Write-offs are excluded from the demand calculation.
Review suggested thresholds
A suggested reorder point covers the supplier lead time plus safety days, rounded for the product’s units or pack size. The default safety allowance is three days. Suggestions are not applied on their own.
Review unusual recent movements and upcoming changes before accepting a suggestion. This is a recent-rate calculation, not a seasonal forecast. The Running out soon filter helps identify products whose cover is no longer than the replenishment window.
